Meals on Wheels
SCS was the first, and remains the largest, provider of home-delivered meals in Atlanta. The agency works closely with other organizations and several churches to meet the needs of Atlanta's elderly who depend on this life- sustaining service. SCS' Meals on Wheels Atlanta program provides 450 hot, nutritious meals daily to homebound seniors who are unable to cook for themselves. Many of these people live alone, are bedridden, disabled, or do not have a support system to help with meal preparation.

The fundamental ingredients to the success of SCS' Meals on Wheels Atlanta program are the volunteers who donate their time and energy delivering meals to homebound elderly. Volunteers and staff deliver more than 120,000 meals annually, Monday through Friday. Weekend meals are provided on Friday for persons in need of meals seven days a week. All clients receive hot meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The Meals on Wheels Atlanta program enables our clients to remain independent and in their own homes and communities for as long as possible. Besides receiving nutritious meals, regular visits with volunteers and staff offer clients support, friendship and, for many clients, their only daily contact with the outside world.

A Meal to Remember, SCS' celebrated fund raising dinner, is a major source of funding for the Meals on Wheels Atlanta program. Corporate and individual donations are essential to this program.

Case Management
Through the Case Management Program (Monday-Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.), Senior Citizen Services (SCS) is able to design a comprehensive care plan to insure that all available services needed by the elderly population of the City of Atlanta/Fulton County are delivered in a timely and cost effective manner. This program serves persons 60 years of age and older who are socially isolated and may not know how to access a service delivery system.

SCS' Case Management Program is designed to support the home delivered meals program to determine the need for meals and other necessary supportive services. When services are note available through the SCS' system, referrals are made to other agencies and service providers in the network.

This vital service assesses an older person's needs, develops a personal care plan, and arranges for the appropriate services to be administered in a timely and efficient manner.

Each year this program provides approximately 1,000 city of Atlanta/Fulton County residents with assistance in counselling; information and referral; emergency assistance; home delivered meals; housing; advocacy and other general support services. This assistance enables these seniors to remain independent and in their own home and communities for as long as possible.
